My First Blog Post

Hello & Welcome!

I’m so excited to be starting my Blog today, people have been telling me to start for a while now, but I just never had the time or patience to sit down & start. That changes today, I finally feel like I’m being pulled in this direction & time needs to be set aside for it.

In this first one, I’ll tell you a little bit about myself & how I started my bakery boss journey. Below extract from my “Creative Portfolio”.

I am a young, vibrant, super savvy individual. I am a mother of two teenagers & honestly if I didn’t have baking – I would lose my mind! I have a full time 9-5 but spend the rest of the hours of the day creating beautiful bakes. I specialize in bespoke/ custom cakes, cupcakes & desserts. While I do all the baking, decorating & sugar work myself, my husband & kids are my biggest supporters. Sugar ‘n Spice came to life when I decided to bake my first rainbow cake for my son’s birthday. I had previously ordered one for his 7th birthday & received a “disaster” so I wasn’t taking any chances.

To my amazement, my sponge colours were impeccable, my fondant angry birds were crazy cool & all my guests were blown away. Later my lift club buddies became my avid supporters & helped me spread the word. They tasted all my first bakes & confirmed when I eventually got to the perfect combinations. They even ate the scraps & burnt bits in support of my dream. To Tresh & Rabia, I will forever be thankful & remember my “roots”.

In the beginning, I baked cupcakes, cupcakes & more cupcakes. My husband visited local hair salons & shops on the weekend selling them & sometimes even stood on the street corners when it wasn’t going to good. Word of mouth strengthened the reach of my basic bakes & grew my business further. Today I can say that my success is truly built on people.

The people who were in my life, the people I have met along the way & the people I have yet to meet. A special thank you to all those who have joined my tribe, those who raise my flag & include me in their every occasion. Those who order once in a while & those who have not yet ordered but follow & like my work on social media. To those who recommend me to their friends, family & companies – kindly continue to do so. With your constant upliftment, my business continues to grow.

Finally – to the baker who gave me the “disaster”, thank you most of all to you! For you are paramount to my journey – the spark that lit this fire!!

MISSION STATEMENT: Be who you are & God will grow you into who you’re meant to be. My art is produced from a place of love, no matter what the situation is, my mission is to bake people happy!

My vision for Sugar ‘n Spice is to reach out & touch as many people as possible. I have been on my journey since 2016 & while I have not grown to where I want to be, I have certainly grown to where I need to be. Through hard work & dedication, I hope to one day have a cake factory where I churn out beautiful bakes on the hour.

I hope to inspire younger aspiring bakers & share my knowledge & experience with whoever needs it. I have had no formal training but my passion for this art continues to produce beautiful bakes!

Until next time – be kind & bake people happy!
